What does the quality seal Made in Europe mean?
A “Made in Europe” indication shows where a product was manufactured. Products made in the EU or UK must comply with the applicable food safety and labelling rules.
When a product is certified RAW
The term “raw” generally means an ingredient has not been heated above a certain temperature during processing. There is no single official definition, so check what the brand means by it.
GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice)
GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) is an internationally recognised quality assurance system that specifies the requirements for product manufacture in order to ensure that products are produced and controlled consistently according to quality standards. GMP certification indicates that a company adheres to defined manufacturing and quality-control standards.
To be eligible for GMP certification, organisations must be audited by an independent certification body and demonstrate their compliance with applicable legislation. Companies must also provide relevant documentation, undergo regular inspections and provide evidence that they use appropriate quality-control systems.
The V-Label
The V-Label is a non-profit certification programme that helps certify products and services as vegan. To obtain the certification, companies must meet certain criteria established by the V-Label. These criteria include ethical production, the exclusive use of non-animal ingredients and the absence of animal testing.
Companies must also demonstrate that their products or services are free from animal exploitation or cruelty.
Lactose-free
Lactose-free claims indicate a very low lactose content; check the label and allergen information.
Gluten-free
In the UK and EU, “gluten-free” can only be used for foods containing 20 mg/kg (20 ppm) of gluten or less. Look for the Crossed Grain symbol, licensed in the UK by Coeliac UK.
Plant Based Capsule
The 100% Plant Based Capsule Quality Seal is a symbol of assurance that a product is certified to contain only plant-based ingredients and never contain animal sources of gelatin. It is awarded by V-Label, an international quality association that is dedicated to providing safety and assurance to consumers of plant-based products. Companies must obtain certification from V-Label in order to use the seal on their products.
This certification includes verifying the company’s ingredients, processes and labelling. Once the certification is obtained, V-Label grants the company the right to use the 100% Plant Based Capsule Quality Seal on their products.
Certified Organic
The “Certified Organic Production” Quality Seal is an international certification that marks a product or service as having met rigorous standards for organic production. To earn the seal, companies must be certified by an accredited third-party certifying body that verifies their standards for producing organic products. This includes adhering to rules for organic production methods, soil quality, pest control and prohibited substances.
Companies must submit documents, maintain records and participate in an on-site inspection to demonstrate their commitment to organic production. Companies that successfully meet the certification standards are granted the Certified Organic Production Quality Seal.
