Researchers from the Hifas Da Terra department identify in Galicia
Three new Maitake Medicinal Fungus strains (Frondosa tap) Within the framework of the Fungitechnco research project in which HDT collaborates with other Galician biotechnological companies to cultivate native fungi with anticancer activity.
These three new strains of the species
Frondosa tap, which have been isolated in different Galician forests, are fundamental to the project
Fungitechnco Since, as explained from the R&D department, we do not have as many studies of European strains as Asians. After analyzing the DNA of the new identified species, as they add, genetic differences are observed with the strains from Asia, which "opens the door to the discovery of new unknown anti -cancer compounds unknown until this moment."
Anticancer effect
Hifas da Terra, in collaboration with the Oncology Research Group of the A Coruña Hospital (Inibic-Sergas), analyzed the anti-cancer activity of different edible fungi. The conclusions of the study conducted evidence that Reishi's strains
(Ganoderma lucidum) and Maitake
(Frondosa tap) cultivated by Hifas da Terra have a significant cytotoxic effect on colon cancer cells; In addition to reducing their activity, they act on their growth.

The identification of the new strains of Maitake and the research on the anti -cancer activity of edible fungi is framed in the
FUNGECHONCO R&D project. This channels an investment of 1.2 million euros and in it participating researchers from HDT and of CZV S.A.
This project belongs to the program
Interconecta and is driven by the
Center for Technological and Industrial Development (CDTI). Among the objectives of the same is the selection and characterization of native strains of medicinal fungi and the optimization of their cultivation using large capacity bioreactors.
