There is a lot of life after cancer. This is the message that motivated the III edition of the Playo Polar Life 2017 challenge that has just concluded in Greenlands lands with Micaela, Encarna, Lorena, Ana Belén and Esther; The five women who with their example of courage in the North pole be overcome and hope around this disease.
Micaela, the first person challenge
Micaela is one of the protagonists of the challenge. Only nine months ago the treatment of his illness ended and, as he acknowledged during his visit to Hifas da Terra last August, the last thing he imagined is that the North Pole would be his next destination; Especially after in November 2016 a breast cancer was diagnosed. During his visit he explained how the disease lived from the moment of diagnosis.
Since then, and with a child of only 2 years, he organized his wedding and faced, in this order, 12 chemotherapy sessions, a surgical intervention 一 in which 13 ganglia and more than 30 radiotherapy sessions were removed. Looking back, during his visit he talked about cancer as a disease that implies a long and special treatment, but does not mean the end.
In this long process the family was its greatest support and inspiration, although the diagnosis also implied great changes in the first person. "At the moment they tell you that you have cancer and the treatment to follow, you scare and think, that is what they are going to do in the hospital, but you also wonder what you can do to mitigate the side effects of chemotherapy." One of his greatest fears was precisely related to vomiting, nausea and other side effects associated with conventional treatments.
Synergy of conventional treatment and mycotherapy
Micaela is part of that 80% of cancer patients who, according to the latest surveys, use complementary therapies in cancer treatment. In his search for what could help him face the disease better, Micaela found mycotherapy on the recommendation of his family, involved in the Hifas da Terra project.
After biomedical department Evaluate your case and establish a protocol, Micaela took all the precautions to know the interaction with the treatment they had scheduled in the hospital. «I consulted oncologists who were taking my case and backed me at all times. They told me that these products - formulas with fungal extracts - had a scientific basis and that it was shown that mycotherapy helped in the process protecting the stomach, improving the defenses and improving the energy and strength that I was going to take away chemotherapy.
Micaela started with Mico-Mama Before starting the chemotherapy sessions, when they gave him a sheet with everything "terrible" that could happen to him: mouth sores, hair loss, nail deterioration ... The result was unbeatable. «I had nothing and I don't know if it was to have the high defenses. Every time they were going to give me the chemo they made me analytical and they always did well, ”he explained. In fact, he remembered that while he received chemotherapy he took a empanadilla and a juice and, at the end, he was going home. "I never vomited and I had no discomfort of any kind."
The end of chemotherapy gave way to the operation, which also had a good recovery. When leaving the operating room, even with a drain tube, he went to a music festival. Although he had discomfort the first days, after the intervention he felt with strength and with encouragement. "13 ganglia withdraw and so far I have not had lymphedema," he said.
Radiotherapy was the last treatment of the "complete pack." On this occasion he also used Hifas Da Terra products. «I continued with a soap and the cream they have to regenerate the skin». Until session 30 he had the "perfect skin" and then, although some minor burns were formed, it was nothing serious "for how hard the treatment is," he said.
Before undertaking his trip to Greenland, Micaela defined himself as an "very optimistic person who always" seeks the positive "of his experiences. After everything lived, without hesitation, for her to go to the north pole and have curl hair are two awards for having overcome cancer.
